How to become a Member
openSUSE is shaped by whomever contributes. If you are involved and want to make even more of a difference, you should become a member. Your involvement will be checked by the openSUSE Membership officials team.
Please note that you don't have to be a member to contribute to openSUSE. It is important that the membership consists of those who help out and add to openSUSE in a wide variety of ways to represent the community as well as possible.
Detailed steps to follow
To apply for an openSUSE membership, head over to Connect and follow those steps:
- login :-)
- mention your contributions in your profile (click on your login in the navigation bar, and then the "Edit profile" button on the left bar; the contributions field is at the end)
- request to join the openSUSE members group (click the "Request membership" button)
Hint: register your nick first at freenode to ensure you can receive an @opensuse/member/username IRC cloak!
Please ensure that you have also joined the openSUSE geekos group to show your support of the Guiding principles. Note that we search for people with a serious commitment as members - if you intend to only be involved for a short time there is little reason to become an openSUSE Member.
Examples of contributions
Contributions include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Code and packaging
- Wiki editing
- Bug reporting and triaging
- Translation
- Continued user support on any communication medium
- Giving openSUSE Talks/Presentation and/or promoting openSUSE
- Help openSUSE as an Ambassador
